My Husband and I took a road trip to downtown Asheville, NC for our 3 year wedding anniversary this past weekend. While we were there, we visited The Minor Basilica of St. Lawrence. A beautiful Roman Catholic Church completed in 1905 in the Spanish Baroque style.
Rich tones, textures, and an overwhelming sense of calm completes this beautiful place. Candle votives were lit as an offering in prayer. We respectfully walked around taking in the breathtaking architecture, and then we sat in the pews for awhile in prayerful reverence. I even got to witness two young boys come into the basilica with their rosaries. It was quite moving to sit there and observe and hear the faint whispers of their prayers.
My mind and spirit were so relaxed while there. It was a great spot, and I hope to see more places like this one. After researching the place a bit, I found out that it’s reputed to be the largest, freestanding, elliptical dome in North America. Pretty cool. What a beautiful place to find solace, and so much more.
